Consultation Services

What to expect in consultation?

One thing I have learned as a consultee is that every consultant is different. EMDRIA continues to look for ways to become more standardized and I will stay updated on this information.

Here’s what you can expect with me:

  • Come prepared to talk about particular cases that are presenting difficulties.

  • Demonstrate your work in each phase of EMDR.

  • Outline the issues that you are having and the specific areas in which you see a need for assistance.

  • Provide transcripts or video clips of sessions.

  • Be teachable. Stay open to learning new things and accepting feedback. That’s why you are here.

How are you being evaluated?

The following is from the EMDRIA.org website:

1. Adherence to EMDR Fidelity (EFRS)

Consultants use the 5-part EMDR Fidelity Rating Scale (EFRS) to ensure the clinician adheres to the standard, eight-phase, three-pronged protocol (past, present, future) developed by Francine Shapiro.

2. Client Outcome Metrics (Clinical Indicators)

Consultees are assessed on their ability to help clients achieve specific, in-session, and post-session results:

3. Competency in Specific Techniques

  • 3-Pronged Approach: Verification that the clinician is processing past memories, present triggers, and future templates.

  • Resource Development and Installation (RDI): Effective preparation (Phase 2) to ensure client stability.

  • Stabilization: Ability to recognize and manage dissociation and keep the client within the Window of Tolerance.

4. Data-Driven Evidence (Work Samples)

Consultants require concrete evidence of the consultee's work, including: Case Presentations, Video Recording Reviews, and Documentation Review

5. Professionalism and Growth

  • Ethical Practice: Adherence to EMDRIA’s Professional Code of Conduct.

  • Self-Reflection: The ability of the consultee to identify their own areas of growth, manage personal reactions/biases, and accept feedback.

  • Curiosity/Growth Mindset: Active participation in learning beyond basic training.
